In all  honesty, the first time the word "social engagement" crossed my mind, all i imagined it to be was a situation where you visit old folks' home/orphanages and things like that. However, as for my group, we had the chance to mentor a group of 4 high school students along with their school teacher for an innovation program called "BEGIN Challenge". This was totally different to the "social engagement" i had imagined in the first place. And i'm ecstatic to mention that this was certainly one of the greatest moments in my second year university life. BEGIN Challenge is a yearly innovation challenge organized by Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College and co-organized by Faculty of Engineering, UM. This challenge is all about innovating one's ideas and turning it into a working prototype. We are students from  Electrical Engineering department. For our Social Engagement course, we were given the opportunity to be a volunteer in the BEGIN Challenge. Every group was assigned to a school and my group was SMK Tropicana. I was placed in GROUP 14 together with another 10 members. Our task is to guide the students in completing their prototype which is SMART FENCING FOR ANIMAL DETECTION. Before:  We had a few meetings to discuss about the preparation for the workshop. We delegated jobs among the team members. These were the contents of our workshop:  Workshop 1 - Basic Arduino Part 1 - How to use the breadboard  - How to improvise their prototype Workshop 2 - Basic Arduino Part 2 - Presentation and pitching skills During: Day 1 We lead the students around the Engineering Tower. Self-Reflection and Journal by GOH KAI JUN KIE170027 As a second-year undergraduate student of Electrical Engineering, we are going to take Social Engagement course in this semester which is our Semester 2 2018/19. Social Engagement is a university course which every university student is compulsory to take this. This course is a course or an opportunity for a university student to involve and participate in a community or society. Hence, when I was going to take this course, my mind is am I going to help society like visiting old folks or orphan and maybe cook for them or play with them. I think that it is going to be fun since we can spread our positive energy and love to them besides let them understand that there is someone in this world who took care of them.
