In all  honesty, the first time the word "social engagement" crossed my mind, all i imagined it to be was a situation where you visit old folks' home/orphanages and things like that. However, as for my group, we had the chance to mentor a group of 4 high school students along with their school teacher for an innovation program called "BEGIN Challenge". This was totally different to the "social engagement" i had imagined in the first place. And i'm ecstatic to mention that this was certainly one of the greatest moments in my second year university life. BEGIN Challenge is a yearly innovation challenge organized by Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College and co-organized by Faculty of Engineering, UM. This challenge is all about innovating one's ideas and turning it into a working prototype. We are students from  Electrical Engineering department. For our Social Engagement course, we were given the opportunity to be a volunteer in the BEGIN Challenge. Every group was assigned to a school and my group was SMK Tropicana. I was placed in GROUP 14 together with another 10 members. Our task is to guide the students in completing their prototype which is SMART FENCING FOR ANIMAL DETECTION. Before:  We had a few meetings to discuss about the preparation for the workshop. We delegated jobs among the team members. These were the contents of our workshop:  Workshop 1 - Basic Arduino Part 1 - How to use the breadboard  - How to improvise their prototype Workshop 2 - Basic Arduino Part 2 - Presentation and pitching skills During: Day 1 We lead the students around the Engineering Tower. 13.3.2019: Presentation Day Our group's presentation slot was on 15:00 at the block Y student clinic with Dr Chua. On my way to venue I was worried that I may not make it in time for the proposal presentation, and it was specially important to me to attend as I had no idea what my group was doing, as I didn't meet them before that. I get to the venue about 5 minutes late, but it seemed my group hadn't presented yet-that was a blessing. Student clinic was brimming with students, and there were two lecturers facing the projector screen towards the other end, evaluating another group's proposal. It was a shock to me that almost all the students that were suppose to be only observing, were speaking, and they were speaking quite loudly that it was necessary for one to focus hard on the presenter to understand them.
